Video Game violence and children

For years, violence in video games has been a controversial subject amongst parents.People have debated whether or not violence in games results in violence in real life. Many tragedy's have been blamed as the result of people being exposed to too much violence.

On April 20, 1999, teenagers Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold committed the shootings at Columbine High School. Naturally, the media was looking for someone or something to blame. Along with fingers being pointed at musician Marilyn Manson, video games Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein 3D were blamed. These games fall under the first person shooter category. In these games however, instead of slaughtering innocents for the fun of it, the player kills monsters and Nazis. Many people felt as though these games were the reason this shooting was committed.

In recent studies however, video games were shown to in fact reduce stress, not cause it. Studies have not pointed towards video games as causing violence though.
